Hello, everyone! How have you all been? Recently, many of my students traveled to Korea. However, one of them took a taxi and got overcharged by the driver! This doesn’t happen often these days, so I was really shocked it happened to my student. Today, I’m going to share some useful vocabulary for taking taxis in Korea! If you’re planning to take a taxi here, make sure to study these!
1. 동사 (Verb)
타다 (to ride)
택시를 타기 전에 목적지를 꼭 확인하세요.
(Please check the destination before getting in the taxi.)내리다 (to get off)
목적지에 도착하면 택시에서 내리시면 됩니다.
(When you reach your destination, you can get off the taxi.)(돈을) 내다 (to pay)
요금을 정확하게 내세요.
(Please pay the exact fare.)확인하다 (to confirm)
택시 기사가 경로를 제대로 가고 있는지 확인하세요.
(Check if the taxi driver is taking the correct route.)돌아가다 (to detour)
기사님 돌아가지 마세요!
(Hey, do not detour!)
2. 명사 (Noun)
목적지 (destination)
목적지를 정확하게 알려주세요.
(Please clearly state your destination.)요금 (fare)
요금은 현금이나 카드로 낼 수 있습니다.
(You can pay the fare with cash or card.)미터기 (meter)
택시에 탄 후, 미터기를 확인하세요.
(Check the meter after getting in the taxi.)기사 (driver)
기사님, 어디세요?
(Where are you, driver?)거스름돈 (change)
거스름돈은 됐어요!
(You can keep the change.)
3. 형용사 (Adjective)
비싸다 (to be expensive)
요금이 너무 비싸면 택시를 타기 전에 확인해 보세요.
(If the fare is too expensive, check before taking the taxi.)안전하다 (to be safe)
안전한 택시를 타는 것이 중요합니다.
(It's important to take a safe taxi.)빠르다 (to be fast)
목적지에 빨리 도착했어요.
(We arrived at the destination quickly.)정확하다 (to be accurate)
미터기는 요금을 정확하게 계산합니다.
(The meter calculates the fare accurately.)가깝다 (to be close)
예문: 목적지가 가까우면 요금이 저렴할 수 있습니다.
(If the destination is close, the fare might be cheaper.)

I do not think I have been ripped off but I always have a question about the meter. It usually has a an amount before we even begin to travel. I have often wondered if this is the fare or drivers begin with a certain amount. Can you explain? I return to Korea every year and would love to know
